Episode 6: Finding and Leveraging Stakeholders

A potential stakeholder for your employee community can be anyone who has an interest in your effort and who can be affected by your work. For example stakeholders can include senior leaders in your company, colleagues who are potential members or allies, external organizations, community groups and others.  Another way of looking for potential stakeholders for your employee group is by looking for people who fit into one of these three categories:

Directly impacted and aware of challenge – So if you’re running a veterans network, these would be veterans, if you were running a women’ leadership development group, this would be women in your organization that aspire to grow into leadership.

Indirectly impacted and aware of challenge – In the case of veterans, this might be their spouses, family members, close friends.  In the case of women, this could include husbands, fathers, and etcetera.

Indirectly or directly impacted but unaware of challenge – This category can include leaders in a company for example that is experiencing a problem that unknown to them is in large part caused by the challenge your group is addressing. So continuing with our two examples, this could be a company that is facing tight market for employees and leaders that can be relieved by bringing in more veterans and providing more opportunities for women to grow into leaders.

How to find, attract and engage these different types of stakeholders is the topic of this 6th episode of ERG PowerTalk. Join me and my guests Aaron Harper Manager of Military and Veteran’s Affairs at Atrium Health, Diana Gueits Director of Diversity and Inclusion at the Cleveland Clinic, Vanessa Nazario Diversity and Inclusion Leader at RWJ Barnabas Health and John Laurenzana Executive Director at Atrium Health for an idea and inspiration packed discussion.
